Hiding the center speaker
Dialogue comes from the center channel. Putting it inside a closed glass cabinet muffles vocals. Keep it exposed at ear level.
Skipping room calibration
Auto room EQ balances speaker distance and room acoustic reflections. Failing to run calibration results in muddy surround matching.
Placing surrounds in front
Surrounds must be to the sides or slightly behind the listener. Putting them next to the TV defeats the entire point of surround sound.
The '5' refers to the standard audio channels (Front Left, Center, Front Right, Surround Right, Surround Left), and the '.1' refers to the subwoofer channel.
